Special Programs
ALTRES, a kama'aina company, has a long history of philanthropy and is deeply involved in the community. We understand that our business is all about people and we're committed to doing our part to make the Hawaii we live in a better place for all.
In 2001, ALTRES decided to make holiday donations on behalf of clients instead of giving gifts. Recipients include Hawaii Food Bank, Hawaii Island Food Bank and America's Second Harvest. The following year, the company shifted its focus to schools. Every year, ALTRES donates funds and/or equipment to local schools. ALTRES' annual gifting program is called the ALTRES Community Connection.
ALTRES Community Connection
In January 2008, Kerry Kopp, president of ALTRES Staffing and vice-president of ALTRES, and a crew personally installed eight audio-enhancement systems at Nanaikapono Elementary in Nanakuli Valley. The installation was completed just prior to students returning from the winter holiday break.
The audio systems, an $18,000 investment, will allow for an even distribution of the teacher's voice throughout the classroom, improving the learning environment of students. This is a pilot program funded by ALTRES to bring audio enhancement systems to Hawaii schools. Eight classrooms grades K-3 were equipped.
ALTRES' goal is to inspire its clients and vendors to participate in expanding the program by adopting schools, funding the audio enhancement systems, and assisting with installation.
Parents & Children Together Kid's Day
Bill Guss, our founder, was passionate about strong family bonds and community involement. The Bill Guss Corner (corner of Kapiolani & Ward) has been ALTRES' Kid's Day home for more than a decade. As our employees and friends take to the streets to work as Kid's Day Newspaper Hawkers, the corner comes alive all for the wonderful organization Parents & Children Together (PACT).
United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii's Casual Day
Since 2001 ALTRES has sponsored this event and encourages Hawaii employers to "Get Casual for a cause!"
ALTRES Employees Spread Holiday Cheer Each December
Every December employees of ALTRES band together to take part in the spirit of giving by supporting local charitable organizations. Employees alternate between donating to the Lokahi Giving Project and the Institute for Human Services each year.
The Lokahi Giving Project's mission is to lend a helping hand to the "gap group," families and individuals ineligible for other assistance, and to relieve the burden of those who have suffered from an unforseen crisis.
The Institute for Human Services (IHS) provides the basic human needs of food, clothing and shelter to men, women and families with children who are homeless.
