Over the past few months, ALTRES has had the pleasure of supporting a variety of worthy causes in the Kailua-Kona community. Last month you read about our participation in the Kona Surf Film Festival, but we also want to highlight three other community-enriching events that we’ve had the opportunity of sponsoring: the Tombomb Wahine Classic, the Kona Brewers Festival, and Innovations Public Charter School’s production of Peter Pan.
The Tombomb Wahine Classic — This beach cleanup and surfing event for young women took place on February 22 at Kohanaiki beach. Participants worked together to pick up trash along the beach and then formed groups for a friendly team surfing competition. Keli Campbell founded this event to promote girls being kind to one another and surfing simply for the fun of it. Learn more about the Tombomb here.
Kona Brewers Festival — March 5-8 marked the Brewfest’s 19th year of promoting the craft brewing revolution in Hawaii. More than 2,000 people attended the beer festival this year, raising close to $100,000 for environmental, cultural, and educational charities in Hawaii. Find out more here.
Innovations Public Charter School (IPCS) — IPCS opened in August of 2001 and services 220 students in grades K-8. Every year, students of the school’s Fine Arts Mentorship Experience present a full-scale musical performance. This year the students created and performed Peter Pan Jr. The performances were held April 4-6 at the Aloha Theater in Kona.
