Medical Billing & Authorization Specialist

A local medical office is seeking a Medical Billing & Authorization Specialist to support daily administrative and insurance-related operations. This role is critical in ensuring timely authorizations, accurate documentation submission, and effective coordination with an external billing service. The ideal candidate has prior experience with medical insurance, CPT coding, and preauthorization processes, and can work independently in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Hours

Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Location

Pearl City, Oahu

Pay

$21 to $23 an hour

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit preauthorization requests and letters for physical therapy services.
• Review and apply appropriate CPT codes for therapy services and documentation.
• Coordinate with external billing service by submitting required documentation (daily notes, approvals, and supporting records).
• Ensure all insurance requirements are met for timely authorization and reimbursement.
• Track and follow up on pending authorizations and insurance approvals.
• Maintain accurate and organized patient and insurance records.
• Communicate with providers, staff, and billing partners to resolve documentation or authorization issues.
• Assist with general administrative tasks related to billing and insurance processing.
• Ensure compliance with insurance guidelines and documentation standards.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in medical billing, insurance verification, or authorizations required.
• Strong understanding of CPT coding, preferably within physical therapy or outpatient services.
• Experience preparing insurance authorization requests and supporting documentation.
• Familiarity with working alongside third-party billing services.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Clear and professional communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
