## History

- ALTRES was founded in 1969 when Bill Guss opened Labor Services Inc. in Honolulu to provide on-demand workforce solutions for Oʻahu warehouses, contractors, trucking companies, and naval shipyards. In the 1970s, they pioneered payroll outsourcing and employment administration in Hawaiʻi, then expanded in the 1980s to include clerical and accounting personnel while opening additional offices on the neighbor islands.

In the 1990s, the company unified under the ALTRES brand (“ALTernative RESources for business”), guided by Guss’s philosophy: “Business is the engine of society. Making business simple is our goal.”

Since 2000, ALTRES has continued to grow, expanding its services to include ALTRES Medical, ALTRES Tech, and simplicityHR. Today, as a third-generation, family-owned company with more than 200 employees across Oʻahu, Maui, and Hawaiʻi Island, ALTRES is Hawaiʻi’s leading HR and staffing firm and one of the state’s largest technology companies.
