A 401(k) gives employees a convenient way to save for retirement directly from their paycheck, helping them build long-term financial security while making the most of a valuable workplace benefit.

Retirement planning can come with a lot of questions. Your employees have access to a dedicated team of financial advisors who can help them better understand their options and plan for the future.

No more jumping between systems to manage your payroll and retirement plan. HR Symphony brings your 401(k) into one digital platform, making it seamless for employees to manage.

Employees can continue building their retirement savings as their careers evolve, giving them flexibility as they move from one opportunity to the next.

Once employees choose how much they want to contribute, their 401(k) contributions can be automatically deducted from each paycheck. It’s a simple, consistent way to save without having to think about it every pay period.

A PEO Multiple Employer Plan (MEP) allows multiple unrelated employers to participate in a single 401(k) retirement plan. Instead of each employer maintaining its own individual plan, participating employers share a centralized plan structure and administrative resources through the PEO.

With a stand-alone 401(k), the employer generally has greater responsibility for plan administration, compliance, service-provider oversight, and fiduciary functions. A PEO MEP can centralize many of these responsibilities, potentially reducing the employer’s administrative workload and allowing the employer to focus on its business.

Potentially. A MEP can leverage the combined purchasing power of participating employers to create economies of scale. Depending on the plan’s pricing and services, this may result in lower administrative costs, more competitive investment pricing, and reduced costs associated with maintaining a separate plan infrastructure.

Employees generally continue to have access to their retirement accounts and investments, subject to the provisions of the MEP. Depending on the transition strategy, existing plan assets may be transferred into the MEP, and employees may receive new investment options, account features, and plan services. A transition should be carefully coordinated to address participant communications, asset transfers, and any applicable plan requirements.

Joining a MEP does not necessarily eliminate all employer responsibilities. The allocation of fiduciary, compliance, payroll, employee eligibility, contribution, and other responsibilities depends on the MEP’s governing documents and service arrangements. Employers should clearly understand what the PEO/plan provider handles and what remains the employer’s responsibility before joining.
